KUZEYFALT

COLD ASPHALT ADDITIVE

       Advantages Of Using Cold Asphalt

  • It can be applied even in very cold weather during winter months.
  • It is a simpler and more flexible application than hot asphalt.
  • It provides the opportunity to produce and stock patches to meet all needs at once.
  • It provides great savings in terms of energy, labor and time.
  • It can remain in storage for a long time without serious loss of stability.
  • Packaged asphalt can be stored for a least of 6 months under suitable conditions.
  • It does not require the use of a separate primer during application.
  • It can be used easily on all kinds of asphalt and concrete surfaces.
  • It can be used as a wearing layer in areas with low traffic.
  • It has a simpler and more flexible application than hot asphalt.
  • It gives more successful results in low penetration bitumens.
  • After laying and compacting, the road is immediately opened to traffic.

Things to Consider for a Good Application

  • Technical support should be received from the supplier for the first production.
  • If there is mud and water accumulation in the existing pit, it is cleaned.
  • The fact that the pit is moist does not pose a problem for the application.
  • The produced asphalt is compacted after being distributed homogeneously in the pit.
  • After the produced asphalt is distributed homogeneously in the pit, it is compressed.
  • Compaction with a compactor or patch roller gives the ideal result.
  • In cold asphalt application, the air temperature should not be below -10°C.
  • Additive dosage rate varies depending on regional climate and bitumen penetration.
  • On average, 6 - 10 kg of additives are used in the production of 1 ton of cold asphalt.
  • The quality of the additive used in the usage rate is a very important variable.
  • If cold asphalt will be stored without packaging, the additive rate is increased.
  • Cold asphalt stored in open areas should not be contacted with snow and rain.
  • The ideal temperature range is 110-130°C for bitumen and 90-110°C for aggregate.
  • The amount of bitumen is approximately 4% of the aggregate in the mixer.
  • Low viscosity bitumens give the best results in cold asphalt production.
  • If a high viscosity bitumen is to be used, the additive rate should be increased.
  • After the aggregate is mixed homogeneously with the bitumen, the additive is added.
  • The additive should be added to the mixture in the mixer, not to the bitumen tank.
  • The total mixing time in the asphalt plant is 50 seconds on average.
  • The maximum aggregate size to be used in cold asphalt production is 9mm.
  • Aggregate size can be up to 12mm in necessary cases.
