It can be applied even in very cold weather in winter.
It is a simpler and more flexible application than hot asphalt.
It makes it possible to produce and stock enough asphalt to meet all needs at once.
Saves energy, labor and time.
Can stand for a long time in closed environments without significant loss of stability.
If the asphalt produced is packaged, it can be stocked for a minimum of 6 months.
It does not require the use of a primer during application.
It can be used easily on all asphalt and concrete surfaces.
It can also be used as a wear layer in low-traffic areas.
It has a simpler and more flexible application than hot asphalt.
It gives more successful results in low penetration bitumen.
Road can be opened to traffic immediately after compaction.
Considerations for a Good Practice
In the first application, technical support should be obtained from the supplier.
If there is mud and water in the existing pit, it is cleaned.
The dampness of the pit does not pose a problem in practice.
A sufficient amount of the prepared mixture is taken and poured into the pit.
After the produced asphalt is distributed homogeneously in the pit, it is compressed.
Compaction with a compactor or patch roller gives the ideal result.
The application temperature of cold asphalt in the field is maximum -10°C.
Additive dosage varies according to climate, bitumen type and aggregate size.
Depending on the climate, 8 -13 kg of additives are used in 1 ton of production.
Dosage of additives should be increased in productions that are stored in the open.
Unpackaged asphalt is stored in such a way that it is not affected by snow and rain.
The ideal manufacturing temperature is 130°C for bitumen and 110°C for aggregate.
The amount of bitumen in the mixture should be approximately 4% of the aggregate.
The most successful penetration type in cold asphalt production is 160 - 220.
Additive dosage increases in bitumen with high penetration.
After mixing the aggregate&filler homogeneously with the bitumen additive is added.
The additive should be added to the mixture in the mixer, not to the bitumen tank.
The total mixing time in the plant is 1 minute on average under normal conditions.
The maximum aggregate size to be used in production is 9mm and can be increased to 12mm in mandatory cases.
Gradations above this do not give the desired result.
